There are a number of annual celebrations which people love or loathe. Do you countdown the days to New Year's Eve? Do you spend months planning Christmas? Is Mother's Day a cherished celebration? Do you look forward to Halloween or Melbourne Cup Day? Is St Patricks Day the best day of your year?
You know what I miss in Australia: Thanksgiving Day! It's such a great way to get the family together and actually count our blessings and give gratitude for what we have. I wish there was an equivalent here.
I was brought up in Scotland and New Year's Eve (Hogmanay as we call it) is almost as big as Christmas. The parties are great fun and after midnight we would go first footing. This is where you go and visit all your neighbours. It was a real treat as a kid to be allowed to stay up late and join in the fun.
I adore Halloween - you get to decorate the house, have a party with no obligations on who you invite and you can dress up...and so many fun stories and movies to build up anticipation...Good food and laughs. Favourite time of year!
Christmas is my favourite holiday. I find it a really special family day where we all get together and enjoy each other's company. It is better than days that just celebrate one person (mother's/father's day), because it includes everybody.
Definitely, Christmas is my favourite celebration of the year. Not only we celebrate God but it also brings us together, exchanging gifts and having meals together. We also decorate our houses and there is a beautiful atmosphere in our communities.
