When you move house, do you pack everything yourself or do you leave it to the removal people to pack?

Removal people can pack very quickly and efficiently but sometimes they don't always take great care of your possessions. Do you prefer to pack all your own things or do you leave it to the professionals?

I once had removal people.
Notice the word 'once'....I can do a far better job, they damaged my stuff, I lost confidence. Why should I pay for that.
Their job is to get it done quickly, time is money!
Plus they do it every day....so apathy sets in....I'm not paying anyone for that.
I can do it far cheaper too. :) Plus I have 3 sons.
Love your photo, I thought it might have been an original Verity work.

Last time we moved I didn't pack a single thing! I'd just had a baby so my partner packed it all while I looked after the baby. I packed the kitchen and the books, that was it LOL It was bliss.

If we were wealthy I'd pay someone else to do it though.
I've only ever packed it all myself because having the removalists do it costs a lot more than just having them shift already packed boxes. I do get a bit controlling about how I think things should be packed anyway, though I might feel differently if it was being done by professionals who won't do mad things like pack glassware in with tins of food with no padding in between.
I usually pack a few boxes a head of time and then get the removalists to do the bulk of it. Yes it costs a ridiculous amount more, but I really just can't be bothered. The last few times we've moved were at 38 weeks pregnant and then with 2 children. Next time we move we'll probably do most of it ourselves as we'll have my family etc to help - my family used to move house every 6 -12months so my parents are pro's at packing, cleaning, moving and organising a bunch of lazy and mischievous children!
I've moved a lot as an adult (we never moved when I was a child!) and I can say hand on heart that the cost of having all the packing done for me is worth every pound, euro or dollar I've paid for it! This move there were over 450 boxes in addition to the furniture, I cannot imagine how long that would have taken us to pack.... we have vowed to have a possession cull once they've been unpacked though, as we clearly have far more stuff than we need.
I prefer to do it myself.

I have always done the packing myself. It's tiring work but the whole process of moving house is exhausting. If I had lots of money I would pay removalists to do most of the packing.
We used to be Removalists and took great pride in packing and looking after people's possessions. Sometimes we'd suggest they pack the easy stuff and we'd pack the kitchen - everyone hates that. Suggest to the lady of the house to pack her own undies or if the piece of furniture was not too heavy leave as is and cover with a towel if they wanted to because sometimes a drawer has to come out while loading and then put back in. Seldom did we get complaints and moved family members for years.
