We rarely buy a whole roast; even at Christmas we just buy the breast of a turkey. My dad sometimes buys cheap whole roast. Hicken and turkey, which no one else but him wants to eat, yet it is my mum's job to cook, carve, and serve it up.
I'd call it "hacks " the roast in my case as my husband usually cooks the roasts. We've good carving and filleting knives but he just can't slice thinly. I can make a chicken go far, but not him. We haven't used an electric knife for years. As a matter of fact I noticed ours in a cupboard in the back room. Very likely we just became tired with assembling and cleaning it.
I have not cooked a roast in years as I live alone now!! I cannot even remember who cut, carved or pulled the roast to pieces and I know that we never used an electric knife! When I was a child, my darling dad did the carving of the roast, it was almost like a tradition.
As chicken is the only meat I have as a roast I carve it. Not really carve more like quarter. When my sister and I once cooked a few chickens for Christmas dinner she carved . She was more confident than I was.
I don't have an electric knife.
