Apparently the way to achieve gender equality in the workplace is not by offering flexible working conditions, paid maternity and paternity leave, or onsite child-minding services. Apparently, the way to achieve gender equality in the workplace is to offer to control the fertility of your female staff.

According to NBC news, Apple and Facebook are offering to pay thousands of dollars for female staff to freeze their eggs lest they should be hampered by motherhood.

Advocates say the companiesí generosity supports women who wish to delay motherhood and focus on their careers. Critics say women having to choose their career before their family is evidence that gender equality in the workplace is yet to be achieved.

What do you think? Is this a step in the right direction? Should high profile businesses offer to pay for female employees to freeze their eggs and so delay motherhood in favour of career progression?

I would say, take your job and stuff it up your bum. Women should not feel pressured to put off having children by their employers.

I would say it is ridiculous!

I did see this on TV and while I guess it is good that the firm pays these thousands I think it is stupid to delay motherhood if you want children.

I know in this day and age it must be difficult, money wise, to bring up children, however I do not believe in delaying this, and do not think it is a step in the right direction.

It is very controlling of the firms!

I'd say "no thanks" I would never be able to make a good pavlova if all my eggs were frozen.
Our world is getting weird by the minute.
They will try almost anything now!!
Of late, I am left without anything to say, because it is all getting quite Bizarre.

It seems surreal.
That's disgusting. Again, it is treating women like objects. It's fine if a woman wants to do it on her own accord, but for employers to suggest it is absolutely abominable.
'1984 Revisted' somewhat.

Would politely tell any employer 'offering' this 'facility' to place it where the sun don't shine.
B@&$- ridiculous; only in America! No wonder their country's totally **!
Um, no, sorry, I prefer mine scrambled . . . . !
