I like all pavlova toppings however I do not like all pavlovas!
I make one myself and it is not as sweet as some you buy. Particularly I do not put sugar in the cream, and I like having fruit on it which is slight tart mixed with a few sweet ones e.g. strawberries, perhaps blueberries and passionfruit pulp which although sweet, has a tart taste as well.
I also quite like kiwi fruit in small pieces mixed with the sweeter fruits.
These are the main ones I use though I sometimes add some slices of banana to give a different texture.
My pavlovas never seem to last long so the banana does not have a chance to go brown!
I like blueberries, raspberries and strawberries on top of my pavlovas. Sometimes I put kiwi fruit on top as well. I like most fruits on my pavlovas so am not fussed. I like to make my own pavlovas , but it all depends on how much time I have. Sometimes the store bought ones are more convenient, especially if you are having large numbers of people over, which I do at this time of year.
I hope all of you who enjoy pavlova will have an extra piecs e for me,as I am allergic to eggs!!! Yes I know!!! a real TRAGEDY where these fabulous desserts are concerned, but such is life!!
I can at least enjoy all my summer fruits here on a major basis, and finally after the drought we have endured, a few wonderful Lychees have come through to the Fruit barn from where I like to get my fresh fruit and vegies!!! They are ,as expected ,more expensive than last year's crop, but oh !! how delightful and urrerly delicious the ones I bought on Saturday were!! At $14 kg,they are still much cheaper than the supermarket where I saw them for $20 to 26 kg on the same day!! And of course the white nectarines are always a fabulous addition to my summer selection,as well as huge panama passionfruits from my vine!. I shall simply pretend that they are chopped up and sitting upon a huge crunchy home-mande Pavlova smothered in cream!! I cannot have the cream either due to a problem with dairy foods in such quantity!!
Fattening cream with salted caramel?! OR thick cream with mixed berries. there's actually people out there who've never tasted Pavlova. I can't believe it. We have pavlova cake shops in NSW. I've only walked past the shops, never been inside 1, but supermarkets sell the pavlova bases, & you just add your own toppings!
