I think that we need an attack on all fronts. We need to change the laws to better protect victims - mostly women and children - we need television, and radio campaigns, and print media campaigns. Furthermore the resources that abuse victims use need more funding.
The best way is to keep on talking about it, as openly and honestly as possible, so that it comes to be seen as normal to discuss it. And making people aware that abuse comes in many different forms, not just hitting, that verbal abuse or emotional manipulation can be just as damaging as beating someone.
Also trying to remove the stigma from victims so that they can feel more able to admit there is a problem and seek help.
To be honest, I don't think the white ribbon is much help at the moment. Everyone knows the pink ribbon is for breast cancer, but the white ribbon? How many know it is for domestic violence? It doesn't raise awareness if you don't know what the symbol is. That needs to be shown off and highlighted more, I think.
