How do you take care of an aquarium in the house? What advice do you have for new owners of aquariums with regards to looking after the health of the fish, maintaining beauty of the aquarium, frequency of changing the water?

Self cleaning aquariums would be my preferred option if I were buying an aquarium, or one that has the alarm on that tells you when it needs cleaning.
It can all depend on the type of fish. Some fish respond better in hot water, otherwise the polar opposite. I have nothing more to add apart from Helen's answer. Helen you've got my vote.
I like Helen's idea too. But for people who can't afford a self cleaning aquarium can opt for special cleaning equipment from the aquarium shops which are quite cheap actually.
