I was born and bred in Sydney but after liv ing on the opposite side of Australia for so many years, I would have a real problem living again there.

I like Sydney but there are just too many people, traffic is too heavy, and it is too expensive to buy housing.

I still have family there and if I were a tourist, it is a lovely place to go with plenty to see and do however I have been there, done that, so as a tourist the only place I ever seem to go to is the Blue Mountains which we went to every Xmas as a child, and I HATED. Odd now that that is the one place I love to visit and walk etc!

As a tourist place, Sydney is great, but to live, NO. Very impersonal.

Oh poo . . . trigger finger. Heehee. Was going to say just what you did - great for holidays but too impersonal for happy living . . for me, anyway.

Sydney is a great place for a holiday, but it is in the top 10 of the most expensive places to live in the WORLD. When we were there last, the traffic was horrible. There was traffic everywhere and lots of roadworks everywhere. Our driver was sent on all these detours, we were concerned if we would get to our destination on time. Having said that, it is a lovely city, with plenty to see and do, and lots of history.
I think it will make a decent enough vacation destination
Ha!

Well it's a really really great place to visit.

We are now after a being here since 1963....thinking of leaving.
Sydney was a lovely place to live once.

I am now starting to get rid of a few things, and start all over again .
Not sure when?.....but I have had enough, the traffic at 5:55 a.m on a Saturday morning as we had to go out early....was busy~busy.

Yep great to explore, eat, and have a good old look around.
But, you can't buy in Sydney under half a million dollars very much at all...The people are rude, the kids are rude, the traffic is rude.
SOOOO EXPENSIVE TOO LIVE :(

I'm off to greener pastures within a year..at the very latest.
She was great till 2000, then something happened and she was never the same again.
Good luck with your move. I hope you enjoy your new home.

I've lived in Sydney for all my life, except for the 10 weeks i lived in Paris, & 1 month in London, & all the other times I've been o/s. We live 45 mins out of Sydney, in the same superb I was born in! It's very quite & peaseful here! We live near a national park, the beach, & an Aldi's! We're only a few k's from our local art gallery, where we see a movie, most Sunday afternoons! Our daughters moved to Melbourne, years ago, to were they can afford to live. to live!

I could never live in Sydney, though there are some fabulous places to visit while spending time there. I find it too big,too noisy, too busy, too impersonal, and too smoggy!!!I also cannot handle cold weather at all,so winter time there would be very detrimental to me. All in all,I shall happily remain in the tropics of Nth Qld,and just visit Sydney when and if I get the urge!!!
I've never been to Sydney so I can't really say. I love Melbourne.
My former work's H.O. is in Sydney, & I used to go there often.
My cousin lives there, & I had travelled many times' by car, with my Parents', since I was a child.

LOVE visiting, but would NEVER live there!

I still reckon THE best-ever Olympic's was held there in 2000!

What the world's just been subjected to, was totally disgusting in inefficiency, chaotic, no safety for any person, & hopefully, no other Sth American country will ever be 'awarded' the Olympic's, as they've no money, & basically couldn't organize a 'p@&$-up in a brewery'!
Totally dreadful!
I Totally Agree, I'm still wondering how it all happened???

Been living in the most liveable city, Melbourne. So nothing compares to Melbourne.

However, what I find most attractive in Sydney are the ferry rides.
