I adore the Kumato (brownish colour skin) tomatoes, and I started to grow them from seeds taken from a few I bought at the supermarket ages ago!!!Their flavour is just so old fashioned, and I can enjoy them like fruit!! I also grow the tiny grape tomatoes which just pop up all over my garden without me even planting them!!! I have been picking up to half a kg each day for the past month and I share them with all my friends/neighbours!! If I happen to need to buy a tomato or two,I always buy for flavour, not because of price!!
I'm not fussed as long as they are flavoursome. I like to section them, dust them with salt and eat them raw. I also like the tiny ones and the burst in your mouth when you bite into them. Yum! My husband grows our own and has just made up a batch of tomatoe sauce - we've had a big crop this year. The photo is one of his more unusual fruits.
I love tomatoes. I buy the tomatoes on the vine where possible and I like grape tomatoes rather than cherry tomatoes. Roma tomatoes are not my favourites but are delicious roasted.
I have not had much success growing tomatoes either- only little tiny ones that grow wild, that I call berry tomatoes. One year my when attempting to grow my own, myplants died while covered in fruit at various stages of ripening. I carefully picked every piece and made the most delicious colourful tomato chutney.
