I used to buy pesto all the time. Then I realised that I have an awesome basil plant in my garden and so I have decided that I will not buy pesto anymore and will instead make my own. And it is so much nicer than store bought!
Stock. I don't like the taste of purchased stock whether it's cubes or powder, and home made is so much better! If I've run out then I just won't cook anything that needs stock until I've made some more.
I've never made my own stock! I saw your recipe for it and I keep meaning to make some, but it seems so time consuming for what I perceive as "nice flavoured water" lol. Although I totally get that it is very nutritious and the homemade version must be so much nicer!
I suppose it depends on how you define time consuming but it takes less prep time to make my own than to make up purchased stock powder into actual stock..... it then just sits in the pan or slow cooker until I can be bothered to strain the liquid into a jug! Very simple. And the difference it makes in terms of flavour is amazing :)
