Like fresh 'normal' lettuce! Hate any other 'greenery'.
So my salad would be: lettuce, tomato, thinly sliced onion rings, grated mild cheese, h/b egg, capers, little gherkins, with thinly sliced ham off the bone, or corned meat.
Pretty ordinary, but that's what I grew up with, & still enjoy!
i will not eat the greenery that is placed on your plate and called salad, the supermarkets love to package this type of greenery and call it salad greens , at least I think that is what they call it
I also do not like the so called salad which is undressed, uncut , nothing but a handful of greens just dumped on a plate .
\let's just say that there are parts of a salad which I wouldn't eat....for example tomatoes....did you know that tomatoes are actually poisonous? Well they are.....at least that's what I tell folk who try (yet again) to get me to eat one. Ick. and that goes for olives too. Totally poisonous (trust me....would I lie to you???!!)
wotsy, your post made me smile. I'll try that on people next time they try to make me eat something I don't want. Thanks, lol.
Oh! wotsy, ONLY if you eat the leaves, stems, vines, & unripened tomatoes. There are two toxicities there, tomatine, & solenine, the latter is found with green potatoes, as well.
I've eaten Tomatoes every which way, all my life, & never had a problem with them! Really enjoy just eating a washed tomato, with salt sprinkled on!
OMG - I would curl up & die if I DIDN'T eat tomatoes! I would have at least one every day. Love, love, love them. Olives too...
As someone with coeliac disease I am often given a salad with no croutons or dressing if I try to eat out. Usually a pile of green leaves, a few bits of tomato, and if I'm lucky some carrot or cheese. I loathe it, and think it can just barely be classified a salad. Homemade salads however - yum! Love making my own dressing and adding loads of tasty ingredients like olives, bacon, eggs, rice noodles, chilli, mango, nuts, etc.
