Are many of the accusations of racism just a misunderstanding of persons who are overly sensitive to the issue? Or is racism a greater issue than what even the media is relaying?

Yes it is an actual issue (just like sexism), but I also think it is constantly evolving. While I see many individuals in my life as having racist behaviours I think these days it is a hugely systemic problem.
Every race is prejudiced against another at some point. The problem is not race but the evil in peoples heart.

opens up a huge 'box'.
I'm not prepared to open, because as soon as I give an opinion....it could offend someone.

Racism can be quite subtle and it is up to each individual to think positively towards all our brothers and sisters. I think racial issues deserve more attention if we are to become a truly multicultural society.

Racism is an issue for sure. I know many people who are targets of racist slurs because of their appearance which makes them stand out as belonging to a specific faith. It is an intimidating and frustrating occurrence for the victim. I wish we could all get along.
It's an issue. I think racial tolerance has improved in this country, but we still have a long way to go. My best friend in primary school was from Sri Lanka and do you know I wasn't even aware of racism back then.
It's a very serious and very real issue. My husband has told me stories I honestly cannot believe. Disgusting. That's all I have to say.

Yes. Since the development of eugenics as a science; racial hygiene has been in practice, along with other programs to achieve genocide against specific races inclusive of slavery, bio-weapons assault, institutional segregation.. which in the West came from white supremacy, which is a big deal. Specific races will not be allowed to achieve elite status in certain communities and nations. This is why racism is a problem beyond the surface.
