My friends are very special, so no matter what I was to make they would be very happy.
I think also it depends on the people you are asking.
If it were difficult to do yourself, for whatever reasons....then yes I would ask for a caterer to help out.
You can also go to the supermarket and they have deli platters, that are made very well. Not expensive at all, with the work they put into them. The pic to the left, is one of their platters they make.
It really all depends on the event, if a tad formal...or just a few friends coming over.I do believe impressions do last, and it is nice at times to go above and beyond....It does cost, but if that is not the issue, have fun with it.
You can Google also some great idea's.
It depends on how much time you have. It is fun catering yourself, and you can save some money that way - depending on how street smart you are when it comes to this. It is also good to bring caterers in for things like sushi.
I find that sometimes it's not the catering that's the problem as many items ( in regards to finger food) you can make in advance then freeze. It's the serving once the party has started. I usually prepare some items myself, I may buy a few other items but always find much of my time is taken up heating items/ plating up etc. no matter how organised I think I am. I think next time I'll pay someone to serve up the food for me at my next party so I can enjoy myself a bit more. I don't always like relying on family as I want them to enjoy themselves too.
I would do it myself as long as I've given myself enough time. It's really fun organising what to cook and doing the shopping and cooking and laying out. It's the cleaning up at the end of the party that I'm not a big fan of.
That would all depend on the amount of people I was having.
I generally like to do it myself, however i would probably consider having some of it catered if I were to have a party nowadays.
I certainly would not though for up to about 8 people.
