I was brought up on a farm in Zimbabwe 3-15 (inbetween being at boarding school!), have great memories of the freedom of riding my bike down to the dam etc and meeting my friend on bikes halfway between farms. We grew tobacco (politically incorrect now). I was a smoker for years as an adult but thankfully managed to give it up totally with hypnosis...am getting dejevu, sure we have had a similar question before Finy?
I've given this one a lot of thought over he last few year, Finy. This is our retirement dream! I'd like half a dozen chooks, 2 or 3 cows, 2 dogs, a dam, creek or river, a vegie patch and a ride on mower too. What's the fascination we women have with ride on mowers?!
I used to have a ride on mower. I told my husband that the next one I buy will have headlights. In the end my gardens got bigger and the area I needed to mow got smaller so I said goodbye to my trusty steed.
EVERYTHING!!!!! But I would need someone to look after it all for me as I am unable to do so myself! I love fruits, vegetables and herbs, plus I would adore a huge rose garden. And as I am the most Animal-crazy human on the planet,I would have to have all the furry critters under the sun!!
Aaaaaah! Heaven on Earth! To dream the impossible dream........
I am lucky to regularly visit a farm and my friend who lives there has so many beautiful well cared for animals- dogs, a cat, pony, cattle, goats, sheep and all manner of poultry including Peacocks. I think her family are so fortunate. What a lovely life for children.
In my dreams I would have chickens, alpacas, a goat, maybe a rescue horse, a pet pig, a rescue donkey or two preferably able to occasionally show off in pretty hats, dogs of course, maybe a couple of Emus...the more I think the longer my list becomes. If I was younger I would probably care for rescued wildlife if I had a farm. As a vet nurse I had some experience caring for rescued animals and it was a dream to have a big property where I could provide refuge.
In reality I wouldn't manage to care for everything properly, so I am happy to stick with what I have - 10 chooks , 3 quail hens, a lovely dog, some fish in a pond and a small vege garden. I find that challenging enough and I am satisfied with my lot.
