library, books

Libraries are a great resource for the community and provide a tremendous service in the arena of education. Libraries offer so much more than books and magazines and are becoming a hub for cultural events and community get-togethers.

How often do you take your children to the local library? How many books are they allowed to borrow? What other activities do they do at their local library?

I haven't taken my son to the library since he was little. He does, however, borrow books from his school library.
Only when they're little, about once a week before they start school. Otherwise they have fun reading at school.
Several times a week while I have been lucky enough to live within walking distance of a library. My preschooler has her own library card and can borrow up to 20 items. She usually gets a few picture books and a DVD or two each week and we enjoy the activitities for kids they have there.
Most of the time. We love the library. Only trouble is when we get busy with life and we forget to return the book! LOL.

Once every 3 weeks. We borrow a stack of books and have 3 weeks to get through them all, then return them on due date and get another lot.
We go quite often, especially when there are specific events. I subscribe to the library newsletter which keeps us informed of upcoming events, etc. Kids also play video games sometimes when we are at the library, and I also attend meetings with my volunteer groups there, so we try to use the library for more than just the books

My kids go to the school library one but when they were small I used to take them once a week. We borrowed 10 books each time and had so much fun reading together. They still love going to the library with me so we do couple of library visits during the holidays .
So happy to read that children still visit the library. When mine were young, books were
a great part of their lives. It might be outdated, but I am sure book reading children understand language much easier. Reading a story each night, I remember they picked up any short cuts I might have taken....
The illustrations in children's books are just so wonderful, I still have a flick through if I'm in a library or bookshop.
Mind you, when I look at some of the books of the 70s, the 'culture' wouldn't be acceptable now. Read on.!!!!
