How much sleep do you need to function?

We've all heard that 8 hours is the optimum, but is that how much sleep you need to function, or can you get by on a lot less? Do you get as much sleep as you really need?

I love sleeping! Unlike what most people might think, it is not out of laziness but rather, a peaceful escape from every day's hustle and bustle and with 3 kids at home, I really need 7-8 hours of sleep to function at my best the next day.




I need about 7- 8 hours which I usually get....at 6 hours I get very tired around 5 pm the next day.

I used to get away with a couple of hours, but lately 8 hours at least! ;)
Sleep is vital for good health........... mental state.
8 hours should be taken as gospel!....There are reasons 'why' any less, is just
crazy.We can live without a lot of food, but sleep and water are the 2 main
ingredients for well being.
I had for a little while been unable to sleep, now I'm back on track and can 'feel' my body recovering.
Anyone who has less than the required 8 hours, is setting themselves up....for a crash,down the line.Our bodies absolutely 'need' it, and our brains crave it.

I need atleast 8 hrs sleep.
Usually about 7-8 hours.
Usually it is 8 hours. When I am eating a perfect diet filled with lots of organic veggies, I have been able to cut it down to 6 hours of perfect functioning. The diet isn't as easy to keep up as I would like so I slip back into needing more sleep.
To function at a reasonable level - 6-8 hours
To cope at a reasonable level - a whole lot bloody more than the above
