We are living in a world where so many languages are spoken. Knowing foreign languages really helps if you are travelling abroad or living in a cosmopolitan city. How many languages do you know to speak, read or write?

I can speak two fluently and about 3 with hand signals with one or two words. In other words stumble through the conversation! ;)
I only know English. I studied French at school, but that's all forgotten now.
I only know English and bits of others. But I would love to learn French and Japanese.
A few apart from English: Gaelic, French, Italian and Japanese. My fluency has dropped though as English is now dominant.
Just two-English and German. I remember bits and pieces of a couple more. I could probably have a basic convesation in Russian and I have been learning French but my prounounciation's not great. My daughter's done a bit of French and might be starting Spanish soon so I suppose I'll be learning a bit of that too so I can help her.
Oh, and I forgot Auslan (Australian Sign Language). I can have a basic conversation in that. I learned just enough of it to realise how much I don't know, if that makes sense.
Used to be good at French and Italian, and learnt a little Japanese for a few terms. Now I'm pretty hopeless at all of them...I like learning languages so might get into it again...
English, Arabic, Hindi, Gujarati, basic French and Spanish. :-)

I can speak, read and write in two languages. Much better at English than Croatian, but people are often surprised to learn I was born here and not overseas. :)

My dad's German so I've grown up bilingual in that, and learnt French at school for 4 years, but am now being reminded of that due to knowing someone who speaks it. I also know bits of Italian as that's the language of music and on the scores, etc.
English, Irish, French and a small bit of German and Spanish.
Learnt German at School for four years. Came in useful when stayed with an Austrian couple, in Vienna, for a month, who couldn't speak a word of English!

Nowadays, would be pushed to speak it at any length, but can understand someone's conversation. Have been in situations hearing German speaking people saying not very nice things about me, or my children. They get a shock when I say something back to them in response, in German, though!

Nor do I need to read Subtitles, if watching a German tv show! A great advantage for the continuity of the show, for me!

Oh! And English, spoken, & written!
Nine - I speak English, Australian, American, Canadian, New Zealand, South African, Irish, West Indian and some Scottish! :)
