A large majority of people have probably had that experience where they are running late and would do anything to speed things up. Have you pushed the elevator button more than once? Do you think it makes the elevator go any faster?
Yes. I've done this a few times in the office lately. Our lifts are hopeless. Going home we all use the fire stairs, even though we shouldn't. Resort building, go figure. I'd hate to live in it because of these two lifts.
I have a phobia of lifts, so avoid them at all possible costs. I'm never the one who presses the button, but it won't make the lift go any quicker. It's like people who keep pressing the button on the tram before it has stopped. They're not going to open the doors when the things stops moving!
No, and no it doesn't actually go faster. How could it? Lifts only have the one speed. It doesn't skip other floors because you are telling it that you're more important than the people on other floors who are also waiting for the lift. But it doesn't do any harm, so if pressing twice makes you feel better, go nuts.
Both my kids like pressing the lift buttons now so I let them both do it.
