Dogs are the ones who I feel can do this, and it is no surprise at all.
I personally have had a little of the emotional state, but also being aware that the poor animal can suffer, if our sadness is very strong.

They are very smart, and have a inner sense when humans are upset, sad or very happy.

I don't like the idea that we can burden them down with too much sadness, as they have feelings too, and can also become Depressed....that is just not on.
I can't stand the types of people who drag their poor little dogs everywhere and burden them with every emotion and never let them be dogs. My dogs are quite spoilt but they have their lives to themselves in the house and the yard as they choose . . . . and I don't take them shopping either.

Rice~ that is perfect :)

Thank you jonaj. I have had rescue dogs for years now I just want them all to have a better life. You would adore Life of Pikelet - the people are down your way. They do rescues and fundraising and they dress the dogs up ONLY for the photo shoot. They are A-mazing. They name all the animals after food. LOL.

lol...love it!

I agree entirely. Animals are so sensitive to our emotional state.

Rice - the Life of Pikelet sounds fantastic. I wonder how it started?
by Naomi
Absolutely.. my cats know when we are sad or sick.. and will always come and offer comfort.

Dogs are the best ones for this, and that is why there are autism dogs, epilepsy dogs, cancer dogs, etc. Our Lions club sponsors a PTSD dog for soldiers returning to civilian life. Dogs seem to be very much in tune with their masters. I have a couple of cats who are always so happy to see me. They run to me first thing in the morning, and if I have been out for the day. They are very affectionate, and they take away any troubles I may have with their cute little faces, and purring. We had a little one year old kitten last year who was dying. The vets couldn't do anything more, and we wanted to bring it home to die. Our other cat just knew it was dying. It was licking it, and sat with it for the next 36 hours, until it died.
That was so sweet. It must have made the little dear so happy to be looked after by an older cat.

I am sorry about your cat, that must have been terribly sad.

I think PTSD, guide and other special needs dogs are fantastic. They have such an amazing impact on the persons life and give them independence that they may not have otherwise had.

Many. Most notably several dogs, several horses and several birds. I am so often astonished when I think of something and a certain dog has beaten me to the spot I need to be in. Haha. . . . and as I type . . .a certain dog has come in and licked my elbow as if to say, "I know you are writing about me!" Thank heaven they don't have opposable thumbs.
by Rice
. . the wonderful empathy they have for us goes without saying. One of my horses couldn't bear to see people cry.

I know exactly what you mean! My two are very much like that. It sometimes a little like ESP.
My eldest works out whether I am driving or a passenger and comes to my side to say hello, even at night.

(What a darling Retriever! *smooch*)

That is my youngest! Cute but rascally. Likes redecorating, relandscaping, eating our older ones poo and being cute...

I think most of my dogs are in tune with me, I was in hospital once to have an operation, when I came home they never let me out of their sight, then I had to go in a week later again because I had a bad infection, at times although I was very sick, I could swear they were in the bed with me and I actually thought I was home until I woke up,and obviously I was still in hospital.
You poor thing. That sounds full on.
My dogs were the same when I had surgery. They stay close if I am not quite right. They are amazing.

Love all your answers, obviously a bunch of animal lovers, Yay! Me too, all my animals are in tune with me and me with them, must be because we are animal lovers and empaths as well. This "in tuneness" doesn't work for people who don't care for animals AND I am not in tune with them!
My dogs seem to be like this. We tune into each other and I tune into them as well. I can often tell what they need or if they are not feeling right.. Once when using a loud electric saw , I was totally focused on the job but felt my dog was trying to tell me something. I turned off the saw and she let me know, I suppose telepathically, that people were at my gate. Not something that happened often. Sure enough I went to the gate and there were two people who were too scared to come in.
The dog I have now was still a bit young and silly when I had to go in and out of hospital. I had a bad infection with drainage tubes when I came home. I couldn't sleep in my bed and slept in a recliner chair my husband bought into the bedroom. My dog wasn't supposed to come into the bedroom but I woke with her head resting on my shoulder. She had found a way to hug me without disrupting my tubes. It was really comforting and special.

That is beautiful and touching memory.

Have had many cats & dogs fortunately in my life!

My beautiful WP Corgi I always thought her to be 'half-human'.
My current cat, a beautiful SP Siamese, I rescued, & he loves to be with me all the time, & I with him.
He 'talks' to me, & he understands every word I say to him!

I think life without some little pet would be very lonely, & I believe children learn much from having a pet, of some description.

My dogs have taught my children a lot about empathy and unconditional love, it is very touching and I am glad every day we have them i our lives.

My dogs have an uncanny ability to sense my feelings and if my body isn't 100 percent. They love to be close and receive pats or lean against me in their own kind of doggy cuddle if something is not right. They are fantastic companions and are great at teaching my kids about empathy.
I think it all started when they adopted Pikelet and/or Patty Cakes and then Potato . . . . . . but they foster ducks and pigs and basically anything that needs help. They are great people. There is a facebook page too and I have a calender and a book. I think the hubby is a photographer and everything just works really well. Makes your heart glad, really :-))
