Have you ever tried growing your own tomatoes, and did you succeed?

What sort were they, and did they taste different to shop bought ones?

Yes, I sure have.

I currently have a huge amount growing as bought seeds from Eden seeds and they are brilliant. They seem to come up and flower, and fruit most of the time unlike the punnets you buy from nurseries.

They are starting to go various shades of red and despite snails, I think I will have too many this time, thanks to Eden!

They do taste different as I find the shop ones usually have little taste nowadays and nothing like they used to be.

Yes I have. Last year was a great crop. This year not so good. The plants just would not stay. I finally got one to grow but my little one keeps reaping the young fruit.

I never have but my sister and parents grow them in their gardens. They do taste different. They are much sweeter and nicer than shop bought ones.

I have tried.
I grew the ordinary ones, your common house variety...they tasted like heaven!

Not got enough land now, but one day....me going to do it all over again....Yaaaa ( ^ ^ )
I am very fortunate in that I have tomatoes growing all year round where I live in the tropical regions of Nth Qld!!! The ones I have at the moment all self seeded!! Too easy!!
I have grown my own tomatoes from seedlings and also from seed I saved from tomatoes. Last year I tried Tigerella variety which have pale stripes on them. I have also grown Grosse Lisse, Roma and Cherry Tomatoes. Home grown have so much more flavour than shop bought tomatoes.
I can't say I've grown them, but they have grown in our yard courtesy of somebody else. They tasted very different to those bought at the shops - very different and very tasty!

Nope, never had to 'try', as they just grew out of compost heap!
They tasted like tomatoes, that's all, but it was lovely just to have them, without any 'effort'!
YEs but I never seem to have much luck. The best ones are those that come up on their own and are usually cherry tomatoes. They are delicious
yes, home grown tomatoes are best thats if you have the space, shop bought ones just do not make the grade, they were just as good as home grown years ago, but not now worth buying.
We grow our own during the warmer months with success. We have different varities but I prefer the grosse lise and the roma tomatoes most of all. The taste is so different from shop bought ones and I also supply my daughters with them as well.
Iíve had a few little 'Tinyí Tomsí plants that gave us about 10 tomatoes, thatís all. I have also picked quite a few from 2 Ďwildí lots Iíve found, as Iíve been out for my my morning walk, & yes, they did happen to be nicer than the shop ones. Some other tomato plants have just sprung up on their own, below our house, & next to a fence, but because they werenít staked, the possums ate them, as they were lying along the ground, & while they were still green!
Yes every summer I have bumper crops every year I usually grow Grosse lisse
Yes, I have grown my own tomatoes, and they taste so good, I think it's worth it.
