Yes, I have done this for The Compassionate Friends (an organisation for bereaved parents), and it is VERY difficult and tiring.

We did only 2 hour shifts but it is still quite tiring.

I probab ly could not do it again as have a problem standing since an accident, however it is really a worthwhile thing to do and would definitely do it if I had no physical limitations.

Yes, I have done it for Amnesty International. Not fun, but it was for a good cause.
I have done this while in school and it was for orphans.

Yes, we did a lot of this as a family when we were young. We raised money for several charities - Asthma Research and the local Wildlife Trust leap to mind - it was all part of my parents' philosophy that you should help wherever you can. I am trying to bring up my son with the same philosophy as I think it is important. Shaking the tin is not just about collecting money but also about raising awareness - quite often we would chat to people about why we were raising money, even if they didn't donate anything.
Healthwise, this isn't an option for me any more but I help various charities in other ways still :)
I'm a 'Sally'' so yes street ministry is something one can do....if you wanted.
Yes - I used to do it while in school . I honestly can't remember which charities it was for
