I previously answered somewhere that I was confident I could change a car tyre. However, after stupidly puncturing one of my tyres, I lost my nerve and couldn't replace it. Instead I had to call my brother-in-law and his wife. For shame!
Have you ever punctured a car tyre? Were you able to replace it yourself?
To be totally honest, it really is not something I would ever try to do...even when younger.
My brother told me you have to get the car 'Jack' in the very RIGHT place, or it can fall on top of you.
If a woman wants to do it herself, she also must have the upper body strength to turn the Lugs on the Tyre to replace it.
I have seen some men not able to do that.
I have also seen men have to stand on the ''Lug Wrench'', to try to move the 'lugs' that hold the wheel on.
Over time they tend to get very tight, so when you do need to get them off....you may need a power tool.
If you do get them off, and are able to lift the other tyre with wheel rim (not light)....you also need a lot of strength to place the new tyre onto the car wheel to tighten up the 'Lugs'.
They must be done with a fair amount of strength so the tyre remains on the car....as you drive away.
I have only ever had I think 2 flat tyres in 41 years of driving, fingers crossed
I don't get one tomorrow...lol
(I have seen a lot of tyres changed by my sons, who seem to be unlucky with flat tyres.)
Yes, did TWO in at the same time. Misjudged gutter edging of driveway I'd not been to before. It had sharp steel capping on it.
Had to get towed & 4 brand new tyres, & $500 later, was on my way again, much chastened!
Years ago. In the dead of night. In the country. Limped home and got abused for driving on the rim. Told him to shove the rim! Did I have a mobile phone? No. Was I going to wait for an axe murderer? No. Is my life worth more than a stupid wheel rim? No.
