I grew up with only Home Made mussli,as my mum used to make the most wonderful blends ever, long before they were available in the supermarkets.I would simply watch and learn,so it is second nature to be able to make a delicious muesli with little effort at all. I have discovered in the last few years in particular, that some smaller companies are making blends as nice(well....almost!!!) as what I would do myself,so I do sometimes indulge and buy these.
Used to buy all the ingredients' for my husband's muesli........oats, bran, barley, wheat germ, (much like what horse gets!), a good quality already made-up pkt muesli, dried apricots, peaches', pitted prunes', pineapple, mango!
He'd mix it all-up on the kitchen bench, then put it into Large Tupperware containers'. That amount would last 3-5 months, of one serving each day!
Me, I'm just a 'plain' cereal eater! In Summer, may have Rice Bubbles, with Milk & sliced Banana!
In Winter, Uncle Toby's Trad. Oats, with brown sugar & cream!
Don't eat muesli of ANY description; don't like the mixtures' at all, including the above!
YES, everyday. I dice up 4/5 dried fruits, add a few currents, & saltines, then I chops up 6 different nuts. I soak this overnight, in water or fruit juice with a Tbsp of Woolies own brand of rolled oats. (That was the 1 I saw recommended on TV. They said the worst 1 to eat was Uncle Toby's) In the mornings, I add this mixture to my 2 crushed up wheat-bis. I also add: bottled cherries, chopped up banana, paw-paw, & a couple of slices of tin peaches or apricots, Greek yoghurt, I make my self, from a packet, & chai seeds on top. It's not something you'd want to make, if you have to hurry off to work in the mornings!!
I've made my own but honestly the amount of time spent doing it isn't worthwhile. Like some of the others here, you can buy some lovely packaged ones, so why bother! I did make a lovely one roasted in the oven some years ago as part of a goodie box of gourmet foods I put together for one of my daughters as a Christmas present.
