I have tried black rice several times, and did not particularly like it.
I cannot even now remember the taste but know that I have bought it several times, which also reminds me I have some red rice left over from a recipe from ages ago -I probably still prefer white rice or even brown...
I bought it mixed, and we really did enjoy it.
It seems to be interesting enough to want to keep buying it.
Go's very well with my special salads, and fetta and a dash of oil and all mixed together.
Not the same in taste as other rice, with more a nutty taste and more filling...we don't have as much as white rice.
Looks great to with mixed foods.
Well, I just Googled black rice and my answer is "no" to having used it but now I am interested. I thought it might be the same as wild rice so I checked before I answered. If I can find a small amount I will try it as it has many health benefits according to Google.
I enjoy most rice, though this variety doesn't impress me as much as others. I found it needed to be cooked for a very long time, and only after I had mixed it with other ingredients, did I actually even like it all that much! I did mix it with plain white rice once and I found this much more palatable,I think due to the change in texture within a single spoonful. So,if I am going to cook with it again,I shall be definitely mixing a small amount of it cooked with either white or brown rice to make it more enjoyable.
Yes, I know, how yummy it is, Angel, I had some in Bali, while back-packing with our 2 daughters, in Jan '95. It was indeed yummy! My husband & I are retuning there in 3 weeks, for a wedding, so I'll try & find it again, on the cafe menus!
I've never cooked it, but I think I have a small packet it, in my freezer! I had some in a tiny cafe in Bali, in Jan '95, as a dessert, & it was sooo yummy. I'll be back in Bali in 3 weeks, so I'll try & find it again in the cafes.
