I've realised this week that I am in the middle of calling two different people's bluff - so don't know yet if it was a good idea or not! I am being treated by a doctor who wanted to prescribe me lots of drugs that I thought would do more harm than good and he told me all sorts of scare stories about what would happen if I didn't take them.... I challenged him and have found out since that his main motivator in insisting on them was his own convenience rather than my health. So I have refused the drugs and am now waiting to see if my treatment is successful even without them.
We are also in dispute with some ex-tenants for our house and have called their bluff over returning their deposit. It's now in the hands of an ombudsman, so fingers crossed that works out successfully!
I try not too....because when people say something in that context, they usually 'mean it'.
I may have once or twice in my life, but the other 99% of the time No!
I think one needs to have a lot of wisdom, when dealing with anything in
regard to (calling someone's bluff).
It can end badly, is what I have seen over the years of others doing it.
Also depends if you know the person well, and how serious they were.
