I don't think so. I have no evidence either way but I thought there had been studies done that showed the reverse - that smoking weed kills brain cells. It certainly tends to demotivate people, so that even if it doesn't actually lower your IQ, it makes you less likely to use your smarts... which works out as pretty much the same thing.
Expand your mind maybe, smarter? No.
I know some people might make claims like this, but I don't think it works like that. I have heard people say it helps you see things from different perspectives though, but I can't say I would know myself.

Did somebody claim that it did? Where and why? I can't see why it would.
Is this a trick question?

Last time I saw what it did, was the total Opposite!
I have noticed that it makes me a very creative thinker, and helps me see things from a wider perspective. But does it make me smarter? I don't think so.
Do you get smarter by inhaling smoke and other toxins ? Is it smart or cool to smoke anything?.....
Does smoking marijuana make you smarter?.Maybe in your .smoke filled dreams you may feel smarter but to the straight person walking past you just look like a total idiot!
No definitely not!!!
Both my brothers were pot heads, my younger brother was highly academic in school till he started smoking pot, then he was spaced out unable to hold a conversation and terrible memory loss. Now he has stopped and he is improving rapidly. My youngest brother still smokes and he thinks he is the most inteligent person in the universe, he knows EVERYTHING about every subject but the reality is his knowledge is limited and his memory is faulty and he relys on repeating old stories from child hood with no ability to hold an adult conversation. There is absolutely NO DOUBT that smoking marijuana causes brain damage and memory loss. Some of it temporary and some permanent.
You obviously have had real experience with this stuff as you have clear knowledge on the matter. It is especially bad when started young as it stops the development of the life skills early and leads to very immature adults.
As with all things it is about the quantity and strength.
Some types of hy bred pot leads to severe mental illness when over used.
There is a small case for the use of certain types for pain relief but the research needs to be completed and the issue is complex
Making it a crime is not the answer. In South Australia consumption went down when it was made legal for a while. I believe that it should be taxed and the tax used to educate people and manage the problem. It is clear that making it a crime has not had any impact on the problem, just driven it underground into the hands of criminals. Well over due for a open debate with out political point scoring. People will only change when we educate them and love not separate from them and gaol them.
