Some people have a needle phobia and some people are really bothered by blood, and find donating blood or having a sample taken for a test very difficult.
Does having a blood sample taken make you feel faint?
I don't like having my blood taken out, but then I don't see how anybody could like it. I can't donate blood because I have come close to fainting, but I can have a sample taken out - provided the person drawing it can find a vein. Oh the thought of prodding a person with a needle makes me sick! I was once present when a nurse tried to draw blood from my husband's grandfather for 15 minutes. I felt sick watching - I can't even imagine how he must have felt!
Oh yes, I've had to overcome quite a few hurdles, in just four years with only one boy! I can't imagine what three would be like!! No time to be queasy when they are dripping with blood and need first aid, is there?!
I have no problems at all with having blood taken, which is a good thing as I've needed a lot of blood tests in my life!
My husband on the other hand, feels faint just at the thought... he needed to have a blood test recently and I had to walk with him to the doctor's surgery to make sure he got there safely! They know what he's like there, so had him lying down before they began.
I'm fine about it. I wouldn't say that I enjoy it, I'm not crazy, but it doesn't bother me as such. My daughter goes all wobbly at the thought. Not because it hurts or because of the blood, she says her veins are vulnerable. None of us can work it out but it's obviously I real thing because she breaks out in a sweat and goes faint.
Getting a needle used to really bother me but I was in hospital a few years back and for two or three weeks I had to give blood twice daily so I got used to it. It still bothers me a little but I don't get the hardcore anxiety that I used to.
I have very thin veins and often have problems when having blood taken. Often they end up having to get smaller needles no matter how experienced the person taking blood is. So no I don't like having blood taken and do often feel faint.
Fortunately it is something I can tolerate. Mum taught us to twiddle our toes when we have a needle and it is a good way to think of something else so the flabotomist can insert the needle.
I donate plasma fortnightly and sometimes don't even feel the needle.
