When you take your small children to the GP they generally weigh them and assign them a percentile according to a chart. Do you worry about where your child falls on the chart? Do you know what the charts mean and how they are compiled?
My last son I do!
I have replaced one of his meals a day with steamed veg, and he loves them...and is looking just a tad better on his stomach.
As far as the chart, even when he was very young he was off the chart as far as height, so it was not really a help at all.The doctor said he is fine, as he was not over weight till later.....some kids are going to grow up big.
My son now is 22 yrs old....and takes a mens size 15 shoe !!!
I don't worry in the slightest about my kids weights...however! Because we get them vaxed they see the doctor reasonably regularly. Which means that they get weighed. And then get allocated a spot on the stupid chart. My son is on the 3rd percentile (which is considered small). So I've been taking him back regularly to get weighed. The doctor says that some kids are just small and he is perfectly healthy, but because of where he is on the chart she had to refer us to the specialist paediatrician at the hospital. So I've been loading him up with cream and butter and avocado to try and put a little more weight on him. He is gaining just fine. It's so annoying though having to be concerned about weight when it is no real indication of health!
