I would never trust outsiders to look after my boys.
I was blessed to have my mother, and later one of my son's when I had my 3rd son many years later.
I just could not trust anyone who was not family.
We were getting my parents to watch the kids when we went to trivia. It was so nice to be out without the children, but it did mean that one of us couldn't drink as we had to collect the kids on our way home. I am giving very serious consideration to paying for a babysitter to come to our house so that we can have a big night out. Given that we are planning to have another baby soon we are going to have limited opportunity!
We rarely went anywhere without our son when he was very little. But with all our families living so far away,we DID occasionally get the lovely young lass at the end of the street to babysit.I don't know who had more fun: our son or her!!!!
No, never, ever - not even when we lived in the bush away from extended family.
Always thought that our kids were our responsibility and that we wanted the very best care available for them - us!
They are now 24 & 22. It all slips by so fast.
Never! I have always had family living not too far from us so when my husband and I go on 'date nights' or attend functions where we are unable to take our kids, a family member would always look after them.
Never had to pay a babysitter when my son was young. Either my mother or mother-in-law was always happy to have their grandson if my husband or I were attending a function, party or just a movie. We would occasionally take our son with us if we were going to a party at a friend's house as he would join their children in bed when he got sleepy if it was a late night.
