Do you leave the water running while you soap your hands, or do you tend to save water by turning it off till you rinse?

I am certainly not a "greenie" however turning of the water while soaping/washing my hands is something I always do.

I use an awful lot of water for a single person, and think I have a leak somewhere as I get these huge bills which are not possible without a leak.

However, I have always turned off the water while I soap my hands. I think I started when we first had water restrictions and our dams were so empty.

I always turn the water, off whether to soap my hands or clean my teeth.I've do so since the drought in Vic in 1967 when we just had a bathtub full of water per day,per household!!
I leave it running. The time taken to reach out, turn it off, then reach back to turn it on again is probably longer than the time I take to soap my hands! False economy in my opinion. Plus you must get soap all over the tap, which will then need washing, using even more water and possibly helping the spread of germs and dirt.
I would say it's more important to make sure the tap is properly turned off after you've finished washing your hands and not left dripping. Dripping taps waste far more water than anything else....
Definitely! I annoys me when people do this...one person I know turns the tap on and then walks away etc, before she starts...such a waste of water

No, but that is a really good idea. I will probably make an effort to do so now!

I am quick to soap and wash hands and so don't turn the water off. I don;t think I would really save any doing this.
Yes, & whilst cleaning my teeth!

I don't ever wash my hands with rings on, like lady in picture! Soap suds make rings filthy.
I grew up in Victoria during a severe drought in the 60's and as a child got into very good water-wise habits which have stayed with me for 50 years!!! I definitely do NOT leave taps running at any time when the water is not being actively used!!
I leave the tap running for the few seconds that I'm washing my hands, but I do turn it off when I'm cleaning my teeth because that takes 1& 1/2- 2 minutes.
