These days there are now solar lights to decorate with, reusuable wrapping paper options, and vouchers for experiences to give as gifts, so the waste and landfill can be kept to a minimum at Christmas. Planet Ark has just launched their 12 Do's of Christmas. Do you think of the environment when celebrating Christmas?
I try to, time and money permitting. I prefer not to get the kids plastic toys or things that need batteries. Where possible they get gifts that are homemade or preloved (eg. my preschooler got some secondhand My Little Ponies for her birthday and is getting a preloved doll this year) to reduce the use of resources and packaging. Not sure how well that will work as they get older but for now they don't know any different.
Absolutely! I think of the environment at Christmas.
I try to use more bags for gifts when giving...so they can be reused.I use tissue paper, because it is so thin,it will dissolve.
Wrapping paper only 1 or 2 presents get wrapped up.
It is tons of waste each Christmas day.....makes me winch a little. We don't have lights now...we think of the carbon footprint.
