I'm a huge fan of the small corner shop.
As long as it is clean, and stock is not out of date.
That has happened to me once.
I do look for small shops, to save me going into a big supermarket at times.
Even today, they have a purpose!
I use both, as sometimes my local greengrocer just doesn't stock the produce I want. Generally though, if it's something standard like apples or onions, I buy them in my local small shop as I like to support their business and also their granddaughter is at pre-school with my son, so we often have a good old chat about the children and other topics too. It's nice to have a conversation as I shop!
I only shop at the 'big 2' IF they have my fave tea on special, or for dog/cat food for my daughter's members of the family'. I would never buy meat from a s/mart (for the meat eater in our family), love my local fruit/veg, and buy bread from our bakery or my foodland s/market, which is so wonderful, i have to be careful not to overspend - frewville in adelaide if you're ever that way.
