I have a vivid memory of a school photographer recoiling in horror when I followed her instruction to smile with my teeth. I was in the first grade and missing a tooth or two. That experience left a mark on me, and for a long while I refused to show my teeth when smiling. Im over it! - as my husband says. I have since figured out that my teeth are fine and I look far better smiling with teeth than without.

Do you show your teeth when you smile or do you prefer a lippy smile, and why?

I just smile, no preferences, no idea whether my teeth show or not or what they look like if they do!
Being British I'm sure I use different smiles for different situations, so if I'm really annoyed with someone, I will smile at them with my passive aggressive smile, no teeth there I would imagine. But if I'm wildly happy and excited then grinning from ear to ear, with lots of teeth, seems the most appropriate response.
Does that help?!
LOL, sure does. :D

I don't show my teeth now, because ......I have no confidence.
I'm intrigued.

I just don't smile much.

Depends on the situation

Open of course, but this is not a voluntary thing like you seem to have had, Vee.

I can't think of anyone who smiles with their mouth closed -perhaps if you have no teeth it would be better!

I know plenty of people who choose to smile without showing their teeth as they are self-conscious. It's funny how different we all are.

Open - feels more hearty and sincere!
Very true.

Closed - I'm too shy and not very confident.
Mostly closed. Possibly due to the upbringing and feeling self conscious.

Closed as I have recently snapped a front tooth, so more of a smirk than a smile sadly.
