I enjoy ALL melons, especially in colourful, refreshing fruit salad. However I recall the way my mumused to make rOCK Melon balls in homemade ginger beer as a delicious dessert when I was kid!! This was also eaten frozen,if ever there was any left over! What a fabulous icypole alternative!!
And then to top things off,I went to a restaurant some years back when I first arrived in Nth Qld,where Watermelon Slushie was served as an aperitif before the meal!! I confess to not having a firm favourite in Melon,as they are all so wonderful with their own distinct flavours and textures!
What a difficult question to answer! I love both. I like a chilled slice of either. I also like rockmelon in a fruit salad. Cubes of rockmelon can be nice with meat and salads. I like watermelon and onion salad. Mmmmm
I love both. I am presently growing a rockmelon vine in my garden which has HEAPS of little baby melons on it. Hopi I don't have to buy rockmelons over summer as they are just too expensive at the moment (averaging 4 - 5 dollars each). Watermelon tends to be nice and cheap and the kids love it too.
Watermelon I love and rockmelon I can eat a little of (had it up to my ears as a kid - always rockmelon and icecream) but won't eat either if chilled or straight from the fridge - I think chilling alters the texture of watermelon and rockmelon.
Also, I think any fruit put in the fridge and served reduces the impact of the flavour somehow. And berries, icy cold berries have a very much reduced flavour.
Spring is before summer! Watermelon wins for me! My eldest grown up daughter, canít stand rockmelon. Iíve bought it sometimes, & it doesnít have much taste, so ! Perhaps I was buying it out of season. Iíll eat them both if someone brings them to a picnic. The 1 in the photo, looks like another melon, whoís name I have forgotten. Rockmelon, I thought always had orange flesh.
