Our local one is pretty much just functional, except for the kids' area which has low round soft stools (like ottomans) that can be pushed together to make the shape of a giant flower, and a set of bookshelves shaped like a train which my son loves.
I don't pay any attention whatsoever to the decor of my library. As a matter of fact, the libraries that I frequent are pretty bland anyhow. For me a library is a functional zone. I go in, do my business then get out.
Local Library newly-built only couple of years' ago. It's well planned, functional & above all, QUIET!
Staff keep kids' under control. Parents' don't bother anymore.
I drop-off due books,go get my 'on hold' books, maybe spend time looking at Newspapers' or Wifi'ing (free) my ITablet.
I really enjoy the ambience of my Library & all the staff know me & are very helpful. Very relaxing place to be. I consider myself fortunate to have access to such a place.
If Westfield's greedy grab for parking $$$$ wasn't an issue, I'd probably stay there a few hours'.
