I do make one sort of pastry -it is a German recipe and published on recipe Yum, called Spatzlea and is so so yummy.

However I do not make any other pastry -I have a special machine for the German recipe....there are so many different pastries around, that I have not bothered to try my own, however am going to try gnocchi one day

I don't do either.
Never really did use pastry in any of my cooking.
Saw my mother do a huge amount of baking, and that was one of my favorite memories as I grew up.
But....it was just something I want to be 'her' thing, not mine. :)
I've NEVER made my own pastry..... shame on me.... I might give it a go...... one day
When I need to use pastry I just buy it

It depends what I'm making. Sometimes I buy puff pastry.
I used to make all my own pastry except for Puff, which I have always bought as it is so much work to make! Now I very rarely require pastry,so I do just but it rather than go to the trouble of making it. My mother used to make wonderful pies with her home made pastries, and I learned so much from her.Her Steak and Vegetable pies were so good on a cold winter's night, and her Apple pies were to die for at any time. She used a basic short crust recipe which she would add sugar to for her sweet dessert pies, and this is what I always used to do as well. Very easy!!
I think I have attempted to make it in the distant past, trying to be a good little wife..mainly! Now if I was going to cook anything with pastry (don't cook much) I would def buy it...admire folk who do make their own, obviously it would be better I reckon

I enjoy making my own pastry as my mother and grandmother did before me. There is an art to making good pastry and it is so satisfying serving a good apple pie (for example) to your family when you know that you have created every component from scratch.
Neither, I leave it up to my husband to make the pastry, as he's very good at it!
Picks jaw up off the floor*. I'm impressed VerityG.

He enjoys cooking and baking and I enjoy eating his creations. It's a win-win :) He is also very fond of puddings and pastries, and I am never going to make any, so it's worth his while to do!
Couldn't be bothered, as good quality can be bought. I'd use 'Phyllo' Pastry more than 'normal', though!
Yeah, me too

All homemade.

For shame - I buy my pastry. LOL.

I always make my own pastry (and that goes for pancakes, cakes, scones etc). There's an art to it that is lost when one simply has to open a plastic container!
I did make some pastry about 30 years ago, & I don't think I've ever bought ready made pastry. Not much use really when one doesn't have an oven that works, & I have a very small work bench space anyway, so not enough room to be rolling out pastry.
