Whether it is extreme cold or severe heat, or excessive rain causing floods, or any other type of anomaly in the weather where you live, do you listen to forecasts and prepare for these extreme conditions? If yes, what type of preparations? Do you also try to keep in touch with family and update them about your situation? What else do you do to cope with the weather?
I was in New Jersey when hurricane Sandy hit. We did some major prep work before-hand to protect the house and did some shopping to sustain us through post-hurricane days. I have also been in an ice-storm in Montreal, Canada, where we were stuck at home for a whole week, so a little preparation would have come in very handy, but we still managed to make the most of the adverse condition.
In the recent heat wave in Melbourne, we ate a lot of watermelon to keep hydrated along with drinking water, so shopping in the early hours of every morning was a great advantage.
Where I live the most severe weather situation we're likely to have is a very hot day. If I know one is coming, I plan for it by planning to spend the day indoors or somewhere to cool down like a swimming pool. I also buy drinks with electrolytes in them to help us all stay hydrated.
The most extreme weather we tend to have is the heat... So I sometimes have a frozen hot water bottle and don't plan on leaving the house too often when it's crazy hot. Otherwise I don't really have many preparations.
