Yes, they are something I use during winter, started wearing them maybe 5-6 years ago.
There are a lot of different ones, I go for the more light weight fancy ones, that are a version of a
huge scarf...thrown also around the Jacket I may be wearing, but it has to be very cold.
Sometimes I may even wear 2, one hot pink and the other lime green, it looks really great....and very warm....I have also taken to buying a throw blanket, cutting in half, sewing the ends....and wearing that on freezing cold days...We don't have really warm heating at work.
Shawls can be a lot of fun :)
Earlier I found it too much to handle when I had to wear a shawl. This was because they were either too big or slippery. Ever since I have realized that there are so many types of shawls out there , I have started admiring them. I would like to have one with the buttons, much easier to handle.
I don't like wearing a shawl, I LOVE wearing them :)
I spend a lot of time crocheting and making shawls is one of my passions. I own quite a few now and have several more planned.... this photo shows one of the first I made, and I alternate between wearing it like a scarf and wearing it as a shawl. I love the feeling of being snuggled up and warm, in something I've made myself that is bright and colourful and that has kept me happily occupied for many hours as well. What's not to love?!
I do not like the look of them as, to me they look old fashioned.
I DID however buy several a few years ago when I was living on the farm and it got terribly cold at night, and I would wear them when alone, while watching TV. Even though I had a beautiful fire, shawls kept me warmer.
I had forgotten about them until I read this question, but I would not wear one out.
