Steam engine trains are still around, for fans who wish to get a taste of the past, and tourism as well.

Do you like riding on steam engine trains? Do they inspire you or put you off?

I do. We used to take the little boys on them all the time. I keep thinking I should do the same with our little girl...the whole Thomas thing...
I love it but haven't done it in many years. Used to take the boys on Puffing Billy when they were kids.. so much fun.
I do quite like riding in trains like the Puffing Billy. You can see some great scenery.
It is a lot of fun - we went on Brisbane's monthly "Steam Train Sunday" restored train and had a great time pretending we were back in the "olden days". It makes one appreciate the convenience of modern trains/transport too.

They are the best. There should be more of them around the country! :) I love the experience and feel like I've gone back in the past everytime I board one of these babies!
Just like Xarah, I feel like I have gone back in time and doing a bit of time travel when I ride on steam railways. My son is a huge fan and we go on steam trains whenever we get a chance.
Have done, I really enjoyed the experience. You somehow feel more connected to what is happening both inside and outside of the train. Maybe the slow pace encourages you to be in the now?
I love steam engine trains -the last time I went on one was a dinner one where the carriages had been converted and twice a week they had dinners.

It was beautiful with everything lit up in a lovely manner throughout the train journey.

There is something about the "chugg, chugg" of the steam engine that I find relaxing, though there are not many left any more here.

This one was near Pinjarra in Western Australia.

My husband has been badgering me to ask this question, but you've beaten me to the punch! Hahaha, he is a steam train enthusiast and absolutely loves riding them. I, on the other hand, have yet to ride on one.

L O V E them. Only two nights ago I saw that in the north of England they have brought one back into use for two services per day as the demand was so high. When we travel we try to find the local steams trains to take a ride in. There is something enchanting and nostalgic about steam train travel. We even did Thomas the Tank Engine in England. Marvellous.
