Do you like grapes?

Now that the season in Australia is over, and there are still grapes in shops, are you still buying them at higher prices?

I have been buying them continuously up until last week when I bought them, and they were definitely not so nice.

I wonder where they come from -perhaps Qld?
They did not last as long and were a bit tasteless despite my paying $12 or so a kilo.

The season used to end in February and it is now cold and May, here in the West so they could not be local ones.

I will probably not buy again till summer. -- there ARE cheaper ones available but they have less taste!

Oh my Gosh!!! I am still getting the most scrumptious grapes for only $3.00 kg!!! Our supplies here are still excellent,I think due to the exceptionally long ,hot summer we are having. It still reaches 30 for a few hours each day despite being almost officially Winter!! The grapes I bought yesterday are so firm, juicy and sweet, that I would live on them if I were not allergic to the salicylates in the skin!! If I had to pay $12kg I just would go without!!

We love the white seedless grapes, and no we are not buying any now...they look tired and well over-ripe.
Just can't bring myself to eat them....but, next season we will be buying even more......we just seemed to love this last bunch a lot. :)
Jonaj!! I am soooo excited . . .I just drove past a dog wash place!! It's new and about three minutes form my house!! Woohoo!

I love, love, love grapes . . .but I am told that they are the worst thing for diabetics and I can only have EIGHT a day. Pffffft. I can't buy them, I just can't . . . I would eat the whole bunch :(((

Oh how terrible! I have major issues with the skin as this is where the salicylates are found in all fruit and vegetables, being nature's preservative. I know peeling them can be a chore, but I adore the seedless crimson ones SO much,it is worth it!!!

They are never not in the shops, so I have no idea when the season is. I love grapes. I like to alternate between white and red. I don't like black grapes though.
They have icky leathery skins :(
by Rice
I can't say I've ever noticed that. So many fruit and vegetables are grown out of season now, but they are put in controlled environments where all the right conditions can be manufactured.
Grapes have 95% of water, some glucose and nutrients. Why buy at all? Waste of money

Yes, we're still buying them because the price locally doesn't seem too bad and the kids like them.
The supplies here in Nth Qld are still fabulous and the quality is amazingly good, as it has been all through the year! Our summer has been so long and so hot that the grapes are still in constant and very good supply.Usually the end of May is when they start to disappear from the shops, but there seems to be no sign of this happening as yet, I love grapes, especially the seedless Crimson ones, and I know that I should not eat as many as I do,due to the salicylates which are present in the skin of all fruits, due to my allergies to them. But I love them so much.Peeling them is arduous, but worth the effort for the result!!! When I am lazy and eat them with the skin,I suffer awfully,so I will take the time to do what is necessary!! We are still only paying very small amounts for very sweet and juicy grapes of various types here!! LUCKY ME!
SORRY! I DO NOT KNOW WHY THIS WENT THROUGH SO MANY TIMES!! HOW BIZARRE!!!

I used to eat a lot of grapes but with very little saliva they taste ghastly, the skins leave an awful feel in my mouth so I don't buy for myself anymore but still buy for the family and are able to purchase them rather cheaply now.
You could skin them, helga. with your teeth or a knife. I used to do that, & then I'd put the skins into the compost.

Thanks Miro. I had thought of skinning them but decided it wasn't worth the effort. I'd rather have a nectarine.

Yes I do - I buy green, black and red, but they must be seedless - can't stand spitting out seeds. They are still plentiful here in Queensland and pretty cheap, also sweet and juicy. I always keep a bowl of cut up fruit in the fridge which I can dip into every time I want a snack.
I LOVE grapes and eat them all summer. I would never pay 12 dollars a kilo for them, especially if they were not high quality.
I like grapes. It's the sulfur dioxide I'm not sure about...
by Vee
I like green grapes and without seeds, I haven't bought that much this year, they have been a bit expensive.
I haven't bought grapes for years, because I always think that the ones I buy aren't going to taste nice.
by Miro
beware when buying grapes already in a bag at coles bought white grapes at 3-00kg top bunches were perfect hidden underneath were many loose grapes not perfect and had not come from the bunches they had to be thrown out, I for one do not want to buy loose grapes,
