We always used to have the same food but in recent years have been trying out some new ideas, or familiar ones but not normal Christmas fare, if that makes sense!
So roast beef instead of turkey, for example, or goose or one year we had a turkey crown rather than the whole bird.
I don't feel any need to have the traditional menu for it to be Christmas, unlike my sister-in-law who once uttered the words "No trifle? But it won't be Christmas without trifle!" in all seriousness and has never understood why I have teased her about this ever since.....
I cook mostly the same fare. Turkey, ham, vegies, trifle, mince pies and pudding. My nanna who was born in England, always cooked a traditional hot roast for lunch. Since she passed away, I like to cook the same foods to remind me of her.
We just have whatever is being cooked at wherever we are going LOL Usually it will be something different. If we are at home on our own we'll just have whatever we feel like. My partner's family tend to do big hot roast (although last year they did pork and salad and the salad really left a lot to be desired...but so did the whole trip to be honest...). My family tend to do seafood - whatever my dad decides looks good in the fish shop.
