We have had one or two reasonable cool nights of late, and I noticed that I did not wake up so often on these nights.

I then decided to leave my air conditioner on all night in the bedroom, and I am sleeping better.

So, yes, I do have difficulty sleeping when it is a hot night, unless I leave the air conditioner on. The overhead fan does not help enough when the temperature does not go below 20

Yes, but that is when there is no fan or AC. On a hot night, I usually leave the fan on and it helps me sleep well.
We do the fan thing too Kabhi, mostly because my husband is very sensitive to heat. I don't mind it, but I find the fan often gives me a headache if it's pointed in my direction.

I totally get it . Ceiling fans work so much better in this case. We do not have a ceiling fan either. I let my husband sleep on the side of standing fan and I kind of hide behind him and ask him to keep it in such a way that it doesn't hit my face directly . Lol

Sometimes but I find that if I leave the fan on I sleep fine

Yes I do. From lifelong conditioning, I need to have a cover on to be able to sleep and when it's very hot, that means I sweat and toss and turn but if I try to sleep without a cover, I end up wide awake as it feels so wrong!
When I was in Singapore, I didn't like having aircon on in my apartment (I preferred the ceiling fan) as I found it dried my skin out but the one time I switched it on and to the max was when I was trying to sleep.
Yes, it's horrible.
No I'm lucky, we have air con, and it makes it all better.
Oh goodness yes, it is so difficult to sleep on very hot nights. We have an air conditioner in the lounge, so on very hot nights, we camp out in the lounge and it actually becomes a fun night for the kids.
I seem to be ok with this. It's my husband with the issue. I find that a cold shower just before bed helps me cool down. I also avoid pjs and opt to cover myself with a thin sheet.

I hate the heat of a night and have a tower fan in the bedroom. I usually preset it for 2 hours and this helps me get off to sleep.
I have a wonderful overhead fan in my room, and sleep reasonably well in all seasons
I find having the ceiling fan on when it is a hot night means I sleep quite well. I tend to sleep better on a cool or cold night. I like snuggling under the doona.
I will put a fan on the floor , so as the air does not hit me directly, as I will end up with a cold. sounds strange but true
No, because run aircon. It's a necessity here, NOT a luxury!

Do have pedestal fan, as well, in TV viewing room.

Just bought a Sunbeam Tower fan for bedroom, as aircon air has long way to 'travel' to get there!

Am now way too old to 'put up with' hot sticky nights, as need my sleep!

No, I think I must be one of the lucky ones. I sleep like the dead 365 days of the year! Though no matter how hot it is I still like to have a sheet draped across my lower back & hips. I also only sleep in my undies. If I sleep with a nightie or PJ's I end up feeling 'strangled'.
I do not have a good sleep pattern regardless of whether it is hot or cold, so therefore doesn't make any difference to me. I am a very restless sleeper so tend to toss and turn all night.
We only have 1 fan, (low on the floor) in the whole house, so I let my other 1/2 use that in his room. We don't have AC either, so I just have cold shower before I go to bed, & I'm alseep in 5 minutes.
