I get these regularly and they are so annoying as it has been written about so often that it is a scam.
Yet people must still "fall" for it or the calls would stop.
They are always from overseas as the caller has a heavy accent.
I now virtually hang up without saying anything as it makes me so angry!
Not so much any more, maybe because we have a private number. We used to get them a lot. Sometimes I put my preschooler on to talk with them just for fun. I think it's disgusting that they prey on vulnerable people like the elderly. I heard a podcast recently that explained how they worked.
Have had Indian callers trying to tell me there're problems with my computer.
I'd 'string 'em along' for a few minutes' until I got bored, then just say 'I don't own a computer', which was correct at that time, & then just hang up. Haven't had one since, & that was over two years' ago!
I haven't but have friends who have. I don't think they are as active as they used to be, but have had the car accident one. My husband was quite concerned as one of our daughters was out in hers at the time but when he asked what colour the car was, he got the wrong colour and realised he was almost scammed, told the caller to p*** off
and we haven't had a call since.
Yes and also beware of people ringing saying they are from the Australian Taxation Office and that you have to pay for outstanding taxes. They are saying that you haven't declared previous tax earnings. When I received this call I phoned the ATO immediately and reported it to their fraudulent claims departments.
yes, also the car accident one, these people cannot speak english clearly and it is very hard to understand what they are trying to say. it seems that most calls of this nature have these non english speaking people employed.
No,I have NEVER had a call from anyone telling me that they are Microsoft .I have a silent Number and I believe this may be why I do not get 'cold' callers at all. Brilliant and definitely worth the extra $2.93 per month it costs me!!!
We used to get these calls all the time. I'm sure that they have come up with a new scam by now. I remember one day they called. My hubby decided to play along, just for fun. We had some friends over, so he put the phone on speaker. They gave him the spiel. Then after that, he had to press certain computer keys, to 'correct' the mistake. He said ' I did press the keys" but he really didn't. They kept telling him which keys to press. He says " I am. How come it's not working". We were giggling quietly in the background. The call went for about 2 hours. In the end, after him continually telling them he was pressing the keys they were telling him to press, they said , "You idiot !!! " and hung up !!! Hilarious !!! I'm sure the real Microsoft would not say that to a customer.
