I don't know why this is but when I had a partner, all of them seemed to do this!
They didnt touch a thing in the kitchen, however somehow it was the manly thing to do -make the barbecue with a beer in one hand!
It must be an Australian custom??
I sometimes did the barbecue as one of my partners could not get it right to do medium/rare and always did well done which I do not like at all.
I don't have a male in the house, however when I did...yes they love to do this...think it is an Australian tradition. Most women ARE happy to let them though as we generally do most of the cooking inside
I live by myself, and my son has grown up to cook as much as I ever did when he was little. He is now a chef! The B.B.Q was just an extension of the kitchen for us,and we BOTH did the cooking, whether indoors or outside......
Always! In my younger days, I happily did the barbeque cooking but now I'm married and my husband is always the one to cook when a barbeque is involved.... to be fair he does quite a lot of cooking inside too :)
He has taken a typically male approach to it, watched YouTube videos on how to build the best fire for cooking, experimented with different fuels, researched marinades.... and I don't know what else! Me, I just used to shove in a load of charcoal, light it and cook but that's not good enough apparently :)
I have a wonderful male in the house, but the only BBQ we've ever owned was 1 that I 'won' from having a Tupperware party, many, many years ago. It was a very small & one could carry it in 1 hand! It was put outside on the walkway to the clothesline, at the side of the house, & was never used. I don't even know if its still there! It would be pretty rusty by now, if it is still there!
