I used to use powdered milk years ago and cannot even remember why I used it, or in what.
However I have not bought this for years now.
I occasionally see it in recipes however do not use it.
I guess it does have the advantage that, if you run out of milk, you can use it, however I now always have a litre or two of UHT milk in the pantry -that was probably when I stopped using powdered milk. - i.e. when uht came out.
I used to use it ALL the time befor UHT milk became available! I only bothered to have the skim variety and I would just make up half litre amoiunts and keep in a glass bottle in the fridge.I only have a bit of milk in my cups of tea,and I would use it then. Very convenient, very cheap, and I would make it with a bit more than the directions said. Not a single visitor ever complained about the taste of their coffee or tea,and some even said the coffee was lovely and asked what brand it was!!! Ha ha ha ha!!!!!
Modern wonders. Oh, how I love my UHT milk. We do this stupid thing where we go, "Oh no! I'm just off to the shop for some milk." Then we go to the stash, pull out a carton, walk around the kitchen and roar with laughter. I need a life. LOL
I have never used it until now but I know people who use it for dessert recipes. I have tasted it and it would stick to the palate . It was more of fun activity for me as a kid trying to speak with milk powder stuck to the roof of the mouth. LOL
Remember it as a kid. Had a can in the cupboard in case we ran out of pint milk bottles!
My Grandparents' used it all the time, because they were 'showies', travelling from town to town with their 'Knock 'Em' stand. Fresh milk couldn't be bought as easily as it is now! I'm talking 1920's to 1960's.
