I used to when I lived in Sydney however since coming to Perth, I cannot remember the last time I left a tip.

Perth is quite expensive and it is not done so much here as it was in Sydney.
Also in a cafe, there really is not a lot of service sometimes, so I would not leave one.

I have just become used to this over the last 30 or so years and generally do not even think of leaving a tip.

The exception would be at a better restaurant where I pay with my credit card and would sometimes add a tip if the service had been excellent.

Only if the service is fricken amazing. It's not really the done thing around here. Then again it's rare to get that level of awesome here too. I wonder if the service would be better if they realised they'd get more tips? lol
I don't, usually because I am not the one paying. If I am paying, it rarely occurs to me to leave a tip.
You are the lucky one not paying wow

Since moving to Perth this is something I have noticed isn't done in Perth. Prior to moving to Perth I always left at least 10% for the tip. However since moving to Perth I rarely tip.

If a fancy one, then yes of course.
I haven't been to one for some time.
It's bad manners to me, not to leave a tip.
If I had very bad service, no-way!
In a good restaurant,YES! but in a cafe, only if it is a more upmarket style of eatery and the service has been exceptional.
Yes I tip and depends on the level of service too. If bad then no, If coffee or tea then no, but a little to show appreciation gets a smile and they do work hard and have to put up with grumpy clients!
No , It's not really not the Australian way .If I were to tip prices of restaurant food would have to drop substantially as its expensive and tipping only adds to the cost .
Yes i do but only in a fine dinig restaurant.

No. Why? In Australia, restaurant staff are paid, they're not doing it for free!

And what's the 'thing' with tipping such an establishment's staff anyway?

The butcher, baker, woolies' check-out chick, theatre usher/ette, & your GP don't get tipped in the normal way of life, so again, why them?
They're just doing 'a' job, same as everybody else.
I live in Boston, MA in good old USA and I ALWAYS leave a 15 to 20 % tip of whatever my bill is. To leave any less would be rude.
We live in the Land of Oz, but we have an artist friend who lives in Boston. My mother & I visited for her wedding, back in 'August '95.

On the many times i've been to the U.S, I noticed the eateries lOVE their tips, but I feel, because the pay is higher is Oz, it's not expected as much. having just said that, I did leave a 20 cent tip in a little cafe we were in yesterday! (Hey big spender, me!)
