I would probably say I enjoy a good debate more than keeping quiet!
I tend to be a bit argumentative depending on who I am with -there are some people with whom I avoid certain topics as I do not want to get into an argument, so will shut up, but generally I speak my mind and will debate.
For me this all depends on the person I'm debating with. I don't care for conflict, so if the person is level headed, even if they don't agree with my point of view, then I enjoy a good debate. I like hearing different sides of an argument, I just don't like when it becomes a true 'argument'.
It really depends on my mood, time of day, who I am having the discussion with and what the topic is. Sometimes, keeping the peace is a good idea. And sometimes, agreeing to disagree is also a great idea.
I think I am mellowing in this regard and simply can't be bothered most of the time now in hotly debating an issue as I realize now...no one is right or God so after an initial bit of a discussion and disagreement... just agree to disagree....this has not always been the case and actually think I am a good debater and used to enjoy a good stouch!!!
It all depends on *a lot* of factors including, but not limited to: the context of the debate, who is debating, the topic of the debate, how strongly I feel about the topic, how well equipped I feel to argue my viewpoint, and how knowledgable I am on the subject.
I prefer agreeable discussion to debate. I'm happy to agree to disagree but too often people who say they like to debate really just want you to cave in to their opinion... and I REALLY don't like being told what I should believe.
I love a good debate. Used to do it at school. You have to pick the right person though, who is knowledgeable about a topic, not just one who likes to say anything, right or wrong, in order to win an argument. The trick is to put your point across, with facts to back up your argument, without getting personal or putting the other person down.
