Well we know what I will be doing each month from now one!
Had no idea.....that they needed it that much.

Thanks Vee your a life saver!!! :)
Bless your heart, woman. I'm not sure. I could be wrong as to how often they should be checked. Please refer to Jennifer's response.

Actually I don't....thank you for reminding me!

I don't check the alarms as often as I should...guilty.

I'm ashamed to say I do not. I do, however, curse them every couple of days because I look up and they scare the cr@p outta me!! You would think I would be used to them by now.

I thought you only had to do it every six months if they were on batteries? We got ours wired in and hired a service to come and check them once a year.
My friend who is an electrician said they can be wired in above the light switch too, that way they are easily accessible. I quite liked that idea. If I stay in this house much longer I might get him to change them.

I'm not sure, Jennifer. The source I found said to check all smoke alarms once a month. I took that to mean all kinds...perhaps I am wrong.

No. We check our smoke alarm twice a year when we change our clocks forward or back for daylight savings. This is what our local fire brigade has recommended. It has always been change your clocks and check your smoke alarm battery. When the newsreader tells us to change our clocks before bed he always tells us to check the smoke alarm battery. This is what happens in Melbourne anyway. Our fire brigade has never advised us to check more frequently than that, but it couldn't hurt to do so.
No - we always forget!
Admittedly no, and I know we should.....
I've don't have a smoke detector as yet.
I thought, by law, all houses had to be fitted with them.
