My birthday philosophy is pretty simple. The odds against you being born are pretty high so the fact you were is pretty incredible.
So I think if you can't celebrate the miracle of your life life is pretty sad.
I am not talking about a cast of thousands or an expensive event. It just needs to be a day which is all about you, you get to be Queen/King for the day. This might mean that you eat your favourite breakfast, listen to the music that you love, sing loudly, dance or it might be a quiet meal out at your favourite place with your favourite person. Or it might be climbing into bed with your favourite book and a block of chocolate. Whatever it is, it is all about you for the day.
I celebrated every birthday till I turned 21 in the most extravagant way possible. Now, all I want to do is go out for a nice dinner and some drinks with my boo :) Nothing too fancy, but still make a kinda big deal out of it :)
I have celebrated too many!
I used to wake up feeling so excited on my birthday and nowadays I wake up thinking, will anyone remember it is my birthday.
What is left of my family, one often forgets but I no longer get upset about this as there are worse things that happen in life.
I mostly do celebrate my birthday as a group of ladies go to a very good buffet for lunch every year and I eat my heart out, so to speak!
It is the one and only day that truly belongs to you and I celebrate every birthday. In our house the tradition is, when the birthday person goes to bed on the night before their birthday the rest of us decorate the whole house for when they wake up. Even though we know this happens it really is nice to wake up and know the day is all about you.
My 2 younger sisters & my self used to have a family restaurant dinner each year for our birthdays, but this year it just seemed to much trouble, so the 3 of us went out to lunch a few months later. On my real birthday, I like going out with my husband, for a light lunch, a visit an antique centre, & a entree/dessert for dinner, or if not that, takeaway! this year the weather was awful, so we just stayed home all day, & then walked down the road to a new restaurant & had a entree/dessert. Perfect! the rain had eased by then!
