I get cranky with the adoption of Americanisms in the Australian language. "New Year's" is an expression that has crept into our language in the last 10 years or so. I know that language evolves, but in this and several other cases, I think it has simply gone backwards.
We have taken on America quite a bit. Even living in America, sometimes it is still easy to speak like one. For example: "A party of two." The latter can roll off my tongue when lease expected. I celebrate the new year on NYE (being today, as at the time of writing this). I celebrate New Years Day on NYE.
